Aftercare Instructions
Second Skin Bandage Aftercare
-
Leave Second Skin on for 3-4 days unless specified by your artist.
-
After 3-4 days, with clean hands and preferably in the shower, carefully take off the bandage by pulling the bandage towards your body like a wax strip or a wall command strip.
-
Wash the tattoo thoroughly with lukewarm water and the palm of your hands or fingertips (no rags, towels, or poofs)
-
Air or pat dry.
-
Apply a small pea sized amount of unscented, unmedicated lotion. Lotions with coco-butter or vitamin E oil. NO AQUAPHOR, A&D OINTMENT, VASELINE, or PETROLEUM JELLY.
-
Massage lotion in gently once or twice a day or when needed. DO NOT over-lotion your tattoo otherwise you can smother your tattoo and may create pimples or ink to be extracted.
-
Continue aftercare everyday for 2-3 weeks.
If Given a Second Bandage to Replace
-
If given a second bandage, leave the bandage on for the first 24 hours unless specified by your artist.
-
With clean hands and preferably in the shower, carefully take off the bandage by pulling the bandage towards your body like a wax strip or wall command strip.
-
Wash the tattoo thoroughly with lukewarm water and the palm of your hands or fingertips (no rags, towels, or poofs)
-
Air or pat dry or the second bandage will not stick.
-
Apply the bandage like a car decal or sticker to cover your tattoo- trying not to get as many air bubbles trapped under the bandage as possible.
-
If there are some air bubbles in your bandage, do not pop it.
-
After the bandage is on, leave on for 3-4 days.
-
After you take the second bandage off, follow the aftercare instructions on how to take off bandage and clean the tattoo.
-
After cleaning your tattoo and drying it, apply a small pea sized amount of unscented, unmedicated lotion.

If your bandage leaks before time is up, take off, wash, and continue aftercare. DO NOT RE-BANDAGE AFTER A SECOND TIME.

Other Tips, Tricks, and FAQs
-
If you have adhesive still on your skin from the bandage, you can try lightly scrubbing (with your fingertips, no nails) off the adhesive with very soapy water. If that does not work, baby oil may help. Make sure you clean the baby oil off thoroughly with soap and water after. If you cannot take off all of the adhesive, don't fret. It will come off as time goes on.
-
If your tattoo bandage leaks before the time is up, you can either take off the bandage before then and continue your aftercare. Or you can wipe the plasma and liquid up with alcohol, let it dry, and apply a small piece of second skin to cover the hole.
-
Tattoo itches really bad? You may lightly slap your tattoo instead of scratching and picking at it.
-
Exercising may not be recommended. Sweating is a normal bodily function but may fill up your bandage more than desired. Exercising may also stretch your healing skin to its limits and may crack or split resulting in a more difficult or terrible healing. Gyms are also a habitat for bacteria and infections.
-
Working in a gross or hazardous environment? Protect your tattoo as much as possible. If needed, you can wrap your tattoo in a plastic wrap and a long shirt or pants while you are on your shift. Immediately take off when your shift is up and clean your tattoo thoroughly. You must let your tattoo breathe as much as possible. Remember, bacteria grows in hot and moist environments.
Tattoo aftercare will always different for everybody and what may work for others may not work for you. If you have any questions or complications, please CONTACT YOUR ARTIST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
